weaving classWith a literal translation that means “the study of walking,” pedagogy is actually understood as a philosophy of education.  Learning to walk is an early, hominid-affirming part of our childhood, hence the use of ped (meaning foot) in the word.

My own educational journey has been unique, and I’ve spent much time in study and thought regarding models of progressive education.  Each educator has a unique style, but much can be gained with thoughtful review of how you wish to teach, rather than simply copying what was handed to you.

I’ve created a special place on my site for reflections on my own pedagogy–both for personal clarity and to give students an inside view into my style.  This may be inspiration for creating your own statements in your own words to add to your web presence, so students know a bit more about your philosophy of education.  Students really appreciate an opportunity to get to know their instructor before class!
